Inspiring The Inner Engineer

I've always been more artist than engineer, interested more in drawing and painting things than building them. But these prings from 20x200 artist Todd McLellan have inspired me to want to take stuff apart and see the "art" that went into making them. Next time I'm at a tag sale I think I'll buy some cheap old electronics and work on taking them apart with Bean to maybe inspire her inner engineer. All of these old things that we now take for granted are amazingly intricate, and seeing all these old parts makes me appreciate all the human innovation and engineering (that art) that went into making them. There is definitely a major element of creativity to engineering.

PS, if you live in the Columbus, Ohio area, the COSI museum has a room dedicated to taking things apart - check it out here.

What We Did This Weekend

Lots of playing in the yard, enjoying the slightly warmer weather.

Fun Party Supplies

I'm always waiting until the very last minute to get supplies for birthday parties and get togethers. Next time I'm going to order in advance from Sweet Lulu, and I'm definitely getting some of the giant balloons and fun cupcake wrappers. Here's a few other supplies I like from this shop:

Featured Etsy Artist Friday - John W Golden

One of my favorite Etsy artists, John W. Golden is today's Featured Artist. We've ordered some of the By Order of the Management signs, a few sets of blocks, coasters, robot prints, and a few more things from him. He's very creative, super creative, and quick to ship. Check out his shop here.

Sneak peek for next week, I'll be featuring Filiz Emma Soyak. Check out her work here.

Blue Boston

I'm obsessed with taking pics of the beautiful blue Boston skyline right now, probably because of the rainy grey skies we experienced for so long this winter. These gorgeous blue days are so refreshing and it has me looking up to the sky all day long. Here's a few pics from my walk around at lunch today.

Heart Map Art

I just found this great heart map artwork online - they're actually sold through a super expensive online store here, but I think they could be a pretty easy DIY project.

Testing Out Beeclip Site

I just found this cool site for creating online scrapbooks, photo albums, and moodboards - Beeclip. This trial board is a bit crowded, but I gave it a test with several pictures from our Memorial Day weekend. I LOVE this site and will be using it a ton!!

SoWa and Bumble Belly Designs

This Sunday, as long as it doesn't thunderstorm, we plan on taking Bean down to the South End open market, SoWa. The market is in a very cool industrial area in the Boston Seaport district, and hosts several artists and food/farmer's market vendors between May and October. A lot of local Boston artists get their start here, along with the South End Open Studios days held in September. I think it's a great way to support local artists, and definitely a great way to spend a Sunday in Boston.

When I was searching the SoWa website I came across this local Boston artist: Bumble Belly Designs. I love her waxed minis, and I'm hoping she's there again this Sunday so I can pick up a few of them. They're really unique. If you can't make it to SoWa, she has an Etsy site here.
